"The author sounds like she was a lovely woman.....definitely strong, intelligent and a ground breaker. I lost some confidence in her though when she described her marriage. She stayed with a man for years even after he asked for a divorce ....she talked him out of it. Then they went to therapy and the male counselor told her to basically be more submissive and less of a partner to her husband (even though they co founded their practice).....which she agreed to and did for years....all to save an obviously dysfunctional marriage. To me that was the first red flag.. The long and the short of it is that she turned a blind eye to his egregious behaviors for decades because it was too painful to face the reality....and then almost implodes when he files for divorce and remarries. I don't think she can present herself as being perceptive when she also implies, unconvincingly; that she was unaware of what was going on right in front of her for decades.. I understand loving someone so much that you are willing to sacrifice your personal dignity and emotional well being to be with them but I would not be inclined to take advice from them. She does recommend not holding on to anger and negative energy but I think that is a basic tenet of healthy living. Maybe I'm being overly critical but I felt sorry for her rather than being inspired or learning anything revelatory. Living long is not nearly as rewarding as living well. I suspect that it was her good heart and determination that contributed to her longevity."

I highly recommend this book. Written from a lifetime of wisdom. Dr McGahey died last year at 104 having lived a long and very well lived life. One of the original pioneers of holistic medicine, she trained in medicine when it was difficult for women to be accepted. She helped countless people to heal over the years and each chapter she gives a simple exercise to help you to understand and better align yourself with the wise you who knows how to live well. Also many stories of her own life and work. I am reading it for the second time. It's the kind of book I keep to read again.
