"I installed these on three lamps that we believed were going to be 3-way lamps before purchasing them. They dim the light fine, but the knob that does the dimming fits rather loosely. I used a silicon clear caulk on the stem, and that seems to be working. But I purchased an earlier model of the dimmer, and this was not a problem. A screw based knob, like that found on most lamp switch stems, would have better design.Another concern I have, and this is not the fault of the manufacturer, is that the color coding on the screw terminals seems hard to take advantage of when the lamp manufacturers do not use color coded wiring or otherwise distinguish the conductors. Without actual electrical testing, how are you supposed to know which is neutral?"

I discovered these by accident in a Sears Paint and Hardware location about 25 years ago. I was getting tired of replacing three way incandescent bulbs every couple of months. These work great and your bulbs last forever too. Not compatible with CFL's. Not sure about LED's. I bought this 7 years ago for under $12. Now it's $22. Thanks Trump.Anonymous

I replaced a traditional light socket with this - worked great love having a dimmer on this light. because the circuitry is in the socket I did have to cut part of the housing to make it fit my application to slide the switch into place - only because I had a very weird position for my light socket in general - this would not be an issue with a traditional light - my switch came out through part of the lamp. All traditional lights it would not be an issue. The dimmer works great.beachbum
