"I was able to loosen the factory anode rod on my AO Smith hybrid water heater using a breaker bar and two 12 inch extensions to clear the heat pump system. The rod unscrewed easily with a regular ratchet after that. The problem started when I tried to install this new anode and found that I could only get one thread started before it became almost impossible to turn. Upon closer examination I realized that during the manufacturing process they painted the threaded cap and also painted the threads. After cleaning the threads with a wire wheel on my bench grinder the installation was easy! This anode rod seems to be well made and I was able to cut the bottom segment off to make the length 36" which is the size my heater calls for. I like that the kit includes the required 27 mm socket and a generous roll of thread sealing tape. I would buy this kit again."
