"Really blistering fast SSD.I do software development and work with lots of large databases. The 990 PRO shows up and delivers with very low latency and excellent speeds. It's easy to find benchmarks online, from places who can better measure and compare so I'm going to do that here. One aspect I like is the Samsung Magician software, as well as the software they'll give you to transfer data to your new drive. The Magician software is super easy to use and helps you keeping an eye on the SSD, lets you know what temperature it's running at and if the SMART values are OK. It's easy to use and read, no need to be an expert. Let's you update the SSD firmware if there's a new version. It's all-in-one and works extremely well; I can only speak for Windows use here, not Linux or other OS.There have been very few firmware updates.. I remember one when the drive just came to market and there was an issue about longevity rating but that has been fixed long ago. A new drive will already have that fix on them.Just a sturdy product with no surprises. I've ran the 2TB version since it came to market, and added the 4TB one a few months ago. Nothing ever went wrong, and that's why I mostly buy Samsung SSDs."

I am using two of these 1TB drives in a custom NAS box I put together running TrueNAS. I have two 12TB HDD drives, two slower SSDs, and two of these great Samsung 1TB NVMe drives. While the majority of my backups are on the mirrored HDD drives, and the TrueNAS boot drives are the SSDs, I use these two Samsung NVMes as a high-performance NVME pool for storing apps, containers, metadata, VMs, databases, and PLEX metadata. This is ideal because the ZFS mirror offers redundancy for critical app data, low latency and high IOPS making it a great place for TrueNAS apps and datasets. These drives are the biggest real-world performance area of my NAS so I use it where speed matters most. The TrueNAS OS and temp jobs/work stay on the SSDs so they don't wear out these NVMes quickly. These drives are nice and fast for PCIe 4.0. They also were a great price at the time because of holiday pricing and they were on backorder for a bit, which caused the price to drop for a week, too. So the value couldn't be beat at the time. Samsung drives like these have never failed me, and some of my M.2 drives get quite a workout on my main desktop build! The only thing I would recommend with these drives is using a third-party heatsink on them that has a fan on it. It keeps these drives nice and cool during high loads. Without them, you run the risk of overheating and heat-related speed throttling, causing your drives to slow down while hot. So keep these drive cool by slapping a $20 M.2 heatsink+fan on there and never worry again! These drives were perfect for my new NAS, or for your next desktop PC drive replacement! They work great and are trouble-free for me so far. I will update if I ever run into any problems with them.leonardo

Samsung's 990 PRO storage is great doing what you ask of it. The speed of the storage is more than I need, and it holds all of the terabytes (4 of them). I used this is my boot drive and that likely helps the rapid boot times, and it hasn't had any connectivity issues in the enclosure.Pros:-Samsung performance, lifespan, and quality-Fast-Huge amount of space (4TB)Cons:-Price hurts a littleI like it, I use it, it's invisible in that works so well I don't care about it.john

I bought the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB with heatsink to add fast storage without messing around with aftermarket cooling, and it absolutely delivers. Install was straightforward (standard M.2 2280), and the built-in heatsink is a big plus for tight spaces like the PS5 expansion bay or compact PC builds.Performance feels instant: games load noticeably quicker, large file transfers are snappy, and everything just feels more responsive. The drive also stays stable under heavier use thanks to the heatsink, which helps avoid throttling and keeps performance consistent.ProsExtremely fast PCIe Gen4 performance (great for gaming + heavy workloads)Integrated heatsink = easy, clean install (especially for PS5)Solid build quality and reliability so farConsPriced at a premium compared to some alternativesYou’ll only get the full benefit if your system supports PCIe Gen4If you want a top-tier NVMe SSD and don’t want to worry about temps, this is an easy recommendation.hansmuff

The Samsung 990 PRO 4TB with the built-in heatsink was a huge storage upgrade in my Rog Xbox Ally X. Installation was simple, and the heatsink fits perfectly without blocking anything in the motherboard.Performance-wise, this SSD is extremely fast. I considered using a microSD card instead of this but the the microSD card won’t support AAA games. With this SSD card I have installed multiple AAA games and still have storage room for installing future games. Extremely happy with the investment. The best part is the temperature control. Thanks to the built-in heatsink, the drive stays cool even during long gaming sessions. I haven’t had any thermal throttling or drops in speed. If you need lots of space and top performance for gaming handheld Rog Xbox Ally X—this SSD is definitely worth it. It’s one of the best upgrades.Pros:• Very fast read/write speeds• Built-in heatsink keeps temperatures low• Easy installation• Quiet and reliable• Plenty of storage for modern games and appsCons:• Higher price than some alternatives, but the performance makes up for itWhat Customers Talk About
