"I have been using the Seagate IronWolf 12TB NAS drives for several years. They have been reliable and I have not had any issues with them. I am building out a new Unifi Pro-8 NAS system. I decided to go with the same size 12TB drives. Now days there are larger drives, but they add cost and and the extra capacity is not really necessary for me. I like the 12tb size. Good balance of capacity without cramming too much data on a single drive.It has been challenging to find 12TB IronWolf NAS drives in stock. At the time I am ordering them, it took 2+ weeks to get the order delivered. Quite a long time to wait, but I don't have any other options to get this size drive new. I placed an order for 4 drives (max I could order in one batch) December 2025. I received the order on January 2, 2026. I left them sitting for 24 hours in the house to acclimate to the environment. Installed all 4 drives into my Unifi NAS. 2 of the 4 failed immediately. The box they were shipped in looked fine and the drives were packaged well. I can't see anything external to the drives that looks like they were damaged during shipping. I have no explanation why 2 of the 4 drives were dead on arrival. It is concerning that 50% of the order was completely inoperative. Makes me worry about how long these will last in the NAS. I hope all 4 drives are not from the same batch.I ordered 2 more drives to replace the ones that failed. I have to send the failed ones back. I have to wait almost a month to get them. Very frustrating to delay my project for so long due to problems with the drives. They are priced at a premium.It is possible that it was a fluke and 2 drives were from a bad batch. If I have any issues with the new drives I ordered or I have stability issues with the drives that currently appear to be working ok I will update this post."
