"Like probably everyone else here, I bought this because my existing magnet on my shower door was crumbling and falling apart. After clearing out all of the broken pieces of the old magnet I slid in this new piece and cut it to size. The door then wouldn't close, and it seemed very obvious that it was a weak magnet, as it didn't exactly repel the magnet on the door, but it would just wouldn't stick when touched together. It made no sense to me that half the reviews said it worked perfectly and the other half said that there was no magnetism whatsoever. I thought maybe I had messed up the door alignment when installing the new magnet but adjusting everything didn't make a difference. I finally figured it out when doing some testing with the leftover piece that I had cut off. There are NO magnets in the entire middle of the strip, the magnets are on the sides of the magnet and that's it, meaning this strip can be installed "upside down", which is what happened to me, and this results in what appears to be just a junk weak magnet that won't keep the door closed, but when pulling the strip out and rotating it 180 degrees clockwise and reinserting it: Problem Solved. All they would have to do is include a very simple set of directions and they wouldn't have any of the one-star reviews that are here. For a price around $30 for a simple magnet strip it would be nothing to include some directions and save a lot of people the headache. The one direction of installation is very obvious, with the flat side of the magnet facing the shower, but since there are only magnets on the left and right side of the magnet then you just have to get lucky on whether or not you put it in upside down or not if you don't know this. After pulling the magnet out and rotating it 180 degrees and putting it back in, the shower had no problem closing. I will say that the strength of the close doesn't even compare to our other shower that still has the original magnet, but it's certainly strong enough to keep the door shut without any issues. I hope this helps someone."

It is important that the lined end is on the opposite side of the other strip for it to stick. Basic physics - opposites attract. If you do not do that, the strips will repel each other and the door would not close. It did take some finessing to get the strip the slot of the door and there aren't much help on the internet on how to do it. But once you figure it out, it will seem obvious. :)stan blackburn

While the description indicates, you should replace both the door and the jamb magnets, i did not notice that the magnets need to be in opposition to one another. This is an important detail and should be highlighted in BOLD.Perhaps you could have this product listed optionally as a pair of magnets.Otherwise, the product is great and as advertised. Good, strong magnets.traveler
