As a landscape photographer, this is my go-to lens whenever I'm on location. My day-to-day…

As a landscape photographer, this is my go-to lens whenever I'm on location. My day-to-day walkabout lens is a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, and I also have a few Nikon primes and a fisheye, but for any serious landscape work it's this lens I reach for in the majority of situations.I honestly find its performance near-faultless. Sure, if you don't attach the lens hood you'll get pretty heavy flare shooting into the sun, but the lens hood pretty much solves this for all scenarios. There's a bit of distortion as you'd expect with an UWA lens like this, but it's easily fixed in post (in my case ticking the Lend Profile box in Lightroom). Vignetting and CA are very low. The only genuine flaw for me is that extreme corner sharpness could be a touch better when you're incorporating foreground interest. But for the price, probably not: there has to be compromise somewhere.Besides fantastic image quality, I am very happy with the build and also how it feels mounted on a Nikon D7100. Your mileage may vary on smaller cameras like the D3000 series or 1300D, but it's not overly heavy and provides good balance without taking up too much room in the kit bag. I've taken it to Iceland and Chernobyl as well as on countless local outings in all weather conditions. The clutch mechanism when switching between auto and manual focus can be a little jerky and the 82mm filter thread means expensive filters, but these are small negatives. For the money and the image quality, I can't really fault it. Having f2.8 as an option is just a nice little added bonus too. I can't see me ever getting rid of this lens unless I switch systems completely, which, partly due to this lens, I feel no reason to do.For some example images check out the landscape images on my website, just search for Jordan Russell Photography.
