"I purchased the WD My Cloud EX4 16 TB in July 2015. Late October 2020 one of the drives due to an unknown fault/error. Video (dvd quality) streams smoothly using both PLEX (running on a pi 3) and EMBY (running on a Dell laptop). Just make sure you check the front panel periodically as not all faults throw an error on the dashboard. Keep the firmware up to date with auto update.... check however as a fault will prevent auto update to protect faulty RAID structure for recovery."

I see that Amazon reports that this drive is frequently returned but I don't know why.I bought two of these 4GB Red 5400-RPM NAS drives in March of 2014 and they've been running non-stop as a RAID mirror-pair ever since (currently 91,858-hours of run-time.).Linux's smartctl reports zero errors of any kind:Reallocated_Sector_Ct = 0Seek_Error_Rate = 0Spin_Retry_Count = 0Calibration_Retry_Count = 0Reallocated_Event_CountCurrent_Pending_Sector = 0Offline_Uncorrectable = 0UDMA_CRC_Error_Count = 0Multi_Zone_Error_Rate = 0...both drives.They run coolly at 39c/102f and are quiet.Although 5400-RPM seems slow, their performance always seemed fast for my purposes: backups and audio/video streaming.I hope that I didn't just hex myself with this review but if they failed tomorrow then they'd still have been an awesome purchase.wildbill

The effort was very easy, no technical knowledge required, took about 10 minutes to replace in my WD My Book, a two drive enclosure. I have a home NAS that is filled with WD RED drives. I wanted to expand the capacity, so I was replacing a 1TB drive, with this 4TB drive. Unfortunately, even with much time spend with support, I could not get my Synology NAS to recognize the first drive I purchased.. The belief was that the drive was not working. So I returned it, and purchased another. This drive did work as expected, right away. So I did just happen to receive a flawed drive.
