"Back with the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Shelly devices I had odd issues keeping them connected to the Wi-Fi and reporting to Home Assistant, but as of Gen 3 and especially Gen 4 reliability has really solidified. I use these to monitor how much wattage each of my rack servers consumes. If I had to find something to criticize it would be that there doesn't seem to be a way to turn the green indicator light off. Previous versions only had a tiny pinhole indicator light, which was fine, but the Gen 4 model has a bright light ring around the outside of the case and it draws attention to a device that should really be invisible."

Slightly more expensive than other smart plugs but you can program it through their app or through their website on your phone or your computer. The control functionality in both places is the same! This plug shows power usage and can, if you're willing to write some scripts, turn off the device when it is used a certain amount of power, etc. Without any scripting you can set arbitrary on off schedules and observe in the app whether the room the plug is in is light or dark and whether it has been turned on or off at the plug or via the app. Robust, easy to connect, a huge ecosystem of users and devices. It is extremely important that all of these schedules and automation features run with no home automation hub and unless the devices are checking each other to make decisions they can run their programs and their schedules with no Wi-Fi connection whatsoever. They do not have to be online to be used. I have a remote cabin where I have the starlink turn on for a half hour during the middle of the day and a Wi-Fi camera lets me examine the status of my power system. If there's more I want to do or if I want to poke around the recordings in my camera I can extend the time the plug is on. It's a Nifty way to conserve power and still have access to a remote network.d white
