"This weather station is great! It has all the bells and whistles I was looking for plus a few. Everything is well made. The display is easy to read and stores a lot of information. For example, the rain gauge shows the current rate, the amount of rain in this storm, the total for the day, week, and since it last reset. The anteometer shows the current wind speed as well as the strength of the maximum gust today. It is possible to set alarms for high temp, low temp, rain, wind. The rain gauge is clever. It never needs emptying. Rather, it has what amounts to a teaspoon sitting under a funnel and when the teaspoon fills it registers that volume of water and then dumps it, ready for the next dribble to come through the funnel. I saw some reviews that complained the funnel didn't fit tightly. That's because it was not correctly installed. You actually have to press down pretty firmly with the pins and slots properly lined up and then give a firm twist to lock it in place. Once set properly, there is no way it is coming off.The barometric pressure readout is adjustable to current absolute pressure, or relative pressure adjusted for what it would be at sea level. It also reads out in malabar's if that's your thing. The weather forecast function is surprisingly accurate. Of course, predictions based on change of barometric pressure can never compete with regional and historical data, but it is correct about 2/3 of the time. That was the standard for weather prediction when I was growing up back in the 50s.The indoor temperature and humidity, as well as outdoor temperature and humidity are all accurate. The UV and luminosity readings are interesting, but I have no way of calibrating them.Overall, it's a very complete and fairly professional setup. It's everything my nerdy little heart could ask for."

The media could not be loaded. This is my second weather station, and after a few days, I'm pleased with the ease of setup and communication not just with the display base but with online weather networks, including Wunderground. My only hitch in assembling the unit was that the rain collector cup was already installed despite the instructions showing me how to do so, and that the rain collector filter coil didn't insert quite as easily as the instructions made it sound. The wind anemometer cup assembly and wind direction vane attach easily, and there's a small screwdriver included to tighten the screws that secure those. These are removable and replaceable, with parts available from Ambient, which is an advantage over the Raddy unit this is replacing; Raddy told me there was no way to replace the broken wind anemometer on my unit.Note: You'll need four AA batteries, which are NOT included. Two to power the outdoor sensor unit, and two for the indoor display base. (The latter two are optional, since the display base can always be plugged in, but it's nice to have battery backup or be able to situate the display away from an available outlet.)One big omission on this product is a solar panel, which on the Raddy had the dual functions of a) powering the unit in daylight to extend battery life, and b) sensing sunlight strength to be able to measure and display solar radiation or UV index. I just downloaded the Ambient app to see if it would tell me the battery strength, and all it will say is "All batteries OK." I'd appreciate even a rough idea of how fast the batteries were draining or how much life they had left.Connecting the system to the Internet is what separates this from the most basic indoor-outdoor weather displays, and while this is a little fiddly, it's not unusually so. You press two buttons to put the display base in Wi-Fi access point mode, which makes it act like your Wi-Fi router, and then connect your laptop or phone to that, long enough to use a web browser to access its admin console and enter your Wi-Fi network settings to get the unit online. From there, you can connect to the Ambient Weather Network just by logging into your Ambient user account, and you can connect to Wunderground.com or even your Amazon Alexa account. Connecting to Wunderground requires you to set up a new device while logged into your account on their site, and then copying over a couple of identifying strings into the Ambient setup, so they can talk to each other. Not difficult. And, connecting to Alexa just requires signing into your Amazon account and authorizing the link. The Ambient app (the first of three iPhone screen shots) doesn't seem to have any real benefits over the Wunderground app (the second) for displaying your own current data or seeing nearby (or distant) weather stations, but it does have some nice graphs of the last day's conditions (the third screen shot). As far as I can tell, the Ambient app is only displaying other Ambient devices on its map, plus official sources like airport weather stations, while Wunderground's map will display and let you select from any devices it knows about regardless of manufacturer. In other words, Wunderground's map is more densely populated with hyperlocal data from more sources. Up to you whether you care; I admit I mostly want to know what's going on at MY house, though it's fun to poke around other nearby stations from time to time. The Ambient Weather skill for Alexa is very rudimentary. I can ask Alexa for the weather conditions according to Ambient Weather, but there's no way to display the info on my Echo Show, which would be an obvious feature, and Alexa+ says the Ambient Weather skill isn't compatible with Alexa+. Ambient probably needs to rewrite or improve this software. One nice capability of this Ambient device is its expandability, with optional add-on sensors available for pool temperature, soil moisture, air quality, even lightning detection. I haven't explored any of this yet, but I like that I could. All told, I'm satisfied with this product, but do think a couple of enhancements would make it a much more obvious winner. Incorporate a solar panel as a sensor if not to help power the device. Include the recommended lithium AA batteries. Improve Alexa integration. As it is, this is a four-star rather than five-star product.motso

I’m surprised that I haven’t purchased it sooner. Installing it was a breeze and just making a few minor adjustments dealing with the readings/display was no problem. I would highly suggest getting one.john dutton

Ever since I was a kid, I have wanted my OWN weather station at my home. It only took me 68 years to get the job done... I had looked at both very expensive and "cheap" weather station offerings, before settling on this setup from Ambient Weather. Setup was relatively easy, with the exception of calibrating the barometric pressure (a call to their tech support helped resolved my confusion with the written instructions, however). I later added a lightning detector, which added to the system seamlessly. If there was any "cons" to report with my setup, it would be that I am disappointed that my station only updates with Weather Underground once per minute, while most other local stations listed there are updating within seconds. This seems to be more of an issue with the Ambient platform that my station reports to, rather than the station itself. Ambient offers it's own app and online services to retrieve my live data, but it is not as impressive a presentation as what Weather Underground offers (plus, Ambient wants you to "subscribe" for upgraded features - somewhat of a turn-off in my book. Still, WU offers all I really need). Overall, if you're looking for a reasonably-priced weather station that is accurate, this would be your pick.eric e snyder

It is a great little weather station. However, my primary reason for getting it was to put it online with Ambient Weather Network (the one it is intended to use use with) but more particularly with Weather Underground. Unfortunately, after I first connected, the unit is failing to update on the network. It has gone for about two weeks now, failing to update. However, it says it is online and it is connected via Wi-Fi to my network and ISP. I have submitted a support request and have had a couple of requests for more information (photo of the base station display?), but no useful feedback about how to get my unit communicating with the weather networks. So, at this point, I can only give 3 stars. If they get back to me with useful advice, I will gladly upgrade my rating. What Customers Talk About
