"This is a barely useful microphone. With the Sony a6000, it is better than the built-in, but a telephone handset would be too. Without shock mounting it still picks up mechanical noise when you touch the camera. Also the "Zoom" feature doesn't work on the a6000, just the "Shotgun" mode. Sony made it impossible for me to use my Rode microphone as I can on my Nikon cameras. All the available microphones that work on the Multi interface shoe are vastly overpriced and under quality. But the lack of a 3.5mm jack gives the user no choice. Sony has been a pioneer in audio technology, but in the case of the cameras with a MIS, they are a leader in ripping off the customer."

So, it still picks up a lot of sounds from behind the mic, like from behind me! That is a little disappointing but it is a huge improvement over the built in microphone on my Sony AX43A Handycam.® The difference between gun and zoom is also not really distinct but maybe the zoom is crisper. But for taking videos of my son at the zoo and finally being able to hear what he is saying well that is worth it to me! So, I am being fair and giving it 4 stars because it does do what I need it to but not as well as Sonys advertising video for the Sony AX43A Handycam® made it sound and got me to buy it! In their video almost all background noise was eliminated well it's not that good!

The media could not be loaded. Ease of use is up there, though it can be a bit confusing because it comes with a dozen different languages of manuals, but basically, you turn off your camera, put this on and lock it in place, and that's about it (using the Sony a6000) Off you sound a bit tinny and the background noise seems more apparent, with it on it seems to be of better quality, still not the BEST (I have a few microphones for streaming/recording on my PC that are better) But for the price it does what it needs to, and would likely make recording videos outside a bit better if you want to make sure to grab mostly the speech/sounds from a group or area.

I bought this as it needed to be compatible with both the ZV-1 and ZV-E10. It's literally plug and play. No need to worry about audio levels, no wires to plug or unplug. Look, if you're a pro, and makes a living shooting videos, this isn't for you. It's a bit better than the internal mic as it directly points to where you want the sound to come from. Only thing which mattered to me is that I can understand what the person is saying. That's it. The simplicity of this setup is its beauty. No need to set audio levels between my 2 cameras and no need to bring a mic wire. Very clean setup and inconspicuous. I shoot video when traveling so the less to bring and worry about the better. This will be in my kit permanently.

Look its not a professional mic. But as far as a basic mic on a camera it works great it records my voice behind the camera, and I've recorded kids voice over 100ft away if aimed properly. Now I'm not saying its mind blowing audio but it works fine. Good enough for youtube. Also fits my sony fx3 camera. I use it FOR NOW, instead of the xlr handle, because the xlr handle draws to much attention in public. And its youtube folks, not national geographic.

So I bought this yesterday and I almost returned it before I received it due to some of the reviews. I just want to say that when I got this microphone I attached it to my Sony a6000 and it worked right away. The quality improvement over the microphone built into the camera is like four times better. The tintieness of the microphone is gone and is now very clear. I'm actually about to film a cat shelter video using a Sony a6000 in this microphone. I am please with my product, thank you.
