"UPDATE Sep 2019:It's been more than a year using the SAME CARTRIDGE. Our water processing plant is currently having issues with the quality of water and its coming out of the pipes very dirty. Using just the BASIC cartridge, the water comes out crystal clear, drinkable. This baby is amazing. Still no leaks whatsoever. Buying another replacement cartridge now just in case.Oh, the nut that tightens the unit to the sink broke because its plastic. Just buy a steel nut and problem solved. Should cost you like 3 dollars.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ORIGINAL REVIEW:After reading the reviews on this, I was skeptical. Some people said that the filter was not of enough quality or that it would not filter the necessary impurities. I considered that we live in a metropolitan area where the city water is just about decent. So we went with the basic filter option. Also, a reverse osmosis system is very expensive and wastes a ton of water (about 3 gallons of waste per 1 gallon of drinkable water).I have to say the results are amazing, even with the Basic filter:- No solids or visible impurities in the water. This means no "floaties" or "flakes" which is the way people refer to the calcium, manganese or magnesium precipitates that can be seen in cold or room-temp water. Although these precipitates are harmless (they in fact occur naturally in other foods we eat), they taste funky and look rather discouraging to drink. This filter took out all of that.- The taste of the water is great. Even at room-temp, the water is easy to drink and delicious.- the water pressure is quite nice with the basic filter. (see pictures)As for the installation, just follow the instructions and a few Pro-tips:PRO TIP: The mark included in the white silicone tube is 5/8 inch long. When you cut the tube to your liking, go ahead and mark the other side so you'll have no trouble fitting it to the right depth.PRO TIP: If you need to drill the extra hole in your sink. It will require the 9/16 bit. I tried the 5/8 hole as mentioned in the instruction, but the white tube does not fit. Use these to drill the hole:- TEMO M35 cobalt 9 size double flute step drill 3/8" shank 1/4" to 3/4"- CRC 03400 16oz Truetap Cutting Fluid Heavy Duty- Starrett 117C Center Punch With Round Shank, 4" Length, 1/8" Tapered Point DiameterYou can check out my reviews on these 3 tools as well, for more details on how to use each for this application.PRO TIP: DO USE plumber's tape (the white one) on all male fittings. This will ensure no leakage.PRO TIP: when i first turned on the water, nothing came out. This was because the filter needed to click TWICE when tightening it in. Just make sure its nice and tight.Installation observations:- No leaks whatsoever were observed. A few people have complained about leaks, for us, this was not the case. We did use plumber's tape.- The process was very straightforward. Took us more time to clear out the area under the sink, than it took to install.- We left the filter loose (did not mount with screws) to be able to take it out and replace it easier."

Water tastes great and is clear . Installation was done by a plumber because my pipes are in an old house and sizes are not modern standards. He did not use the plastic T but installed a brass one on my cold water feed. I bought EZ4 because it filters the best. Water flow is what I would expect for a drinking water faucet. The included faucet in my unit does not have the indicator light with battery and the listing said it did. I bought the unit in October and didn’t install till January so too late to exchange the unit. Would have been nice to have the indicator light to know when to change. All in all this unit is so much better than having a big filter stuck on my sink faucet and getting in the way. I’ve not changed the filter yet so I can’t speak to the ease of filter replacement. I would definitely recommend this system but also have someone with plumbing skills around to be sure you have the right fittings because not all house’s plumbing is modern and standard.

I purchased this to replace an inline filter installed by my plumber two years ago. In order to replace the filter he had installed I would have to go down into the crawl space under my condo which is a long trip through three fire doors which starts in a full basement and ends under my place which is a dark crawl space about five feet high where the shut off is. Then I would have to go back upstairs dissassemble the filter, unscrew the compression fittings and then go back down under to turn the water on and hope nothing was leaking when I went back upstairs. Needless to say I didn't change the filter until it clogged and the icemaker stopped working. This gem took less than 10 minutes to install start to finish, including mounting, and I never have to make that trip again to change a filter. I have copper tubing that comes up about 10 inches out of the floor and from there plastic tubing is joined which ran about two feet to the existing filter and then there was about three feet of plastic tubing running from the filter to the fridge. I took a chance and did not turn off the water. Using my garbage can to catch any water I cut the fridge side of the tubing from the existing filter and a bit of water drained out. I inserted this cut end into fridge side of the new filter housing. I then (holding it over the garbage can) cut the water source side of the tubing from the existing filter and quickly inserted the tubing into the new filter casing. The cut wasn't clean, water sprayed out and the tube was not secure, so I removed it made a clean cut and reinserted - perfect. About a gallon of water ended up in the garbage can between cuts. I mounted the casing with two self drilling drywall anchors and secured the tubing into a foot diameter circular return with a twisty tie. It's working perfectly, no leaks, and the icemaker is once again making ice. I'm thinking of replacing my undersink filter with one of these when I use up my filters, it's a good filter but the housing has to be cleaned with bleach and it takes about a half hour to clean the houseing and change the filters and this is just so much easier, just unscrew the filter and swap it out. For the price this is terrific!

I got this along with the Designer Water Filter Purifier Faucet All Chrome, as I did not care for the reviews for the faucet included with the kit.Installation of the water filtration system is not hard. It should take you less than an hour if you have all tools on hand. I added a small piece of 2x4 wood block behind the filter to keep space between the filter and the dry-wall and the water pipes running along on it. The mounting installation is holding up fine so far.Putting the kit together is very easy. Just make sure you pick out an ideal spot where the cold water hose is close, and the filtration system doesn't interfere with anything. The one thing I'm still trying to figure out is how well this works. I bought it to replace a faucet-mount unit by PUR and there seems to be no difference in flavor between the two. However, it is nice to have a water-drinking faucet mounted out of the way of the main sink.I highly recommend in investing in the Designer Water Filter Purifier Faucet All Chrome. There is a huge difference between this faucet and the one that comes with the Culligan kit. Will report back.1/11/2012.------UPDATE: 4/4/2012.I've been using the filtration system for a few months now. At this point, I have to admit that while I can sense a difference in taste when compared to the unfiltered water, I am not convinced that it is really cleaning it up as much as it should. And the only thing I can compare this filtered water to is the filtered water that is purchased at the local stores for about $0.25 per gallon. Will report back.------UPDATE: 10/8/2015Still going strong. No leaks. NossiesI replace the filter every 10-12 months.Recently, the last filter apparently went bad as we all started getting stomach issues. Narrowed it down to the water being the culprit. have installed anew filter as of today. Also noticed that the the unit head where the filter installs requires a little extra effort to install the filter now. The "adapter" in the unit where the filter "fits" does not twist with the filter when the filter is being removed. Took me awhile to figure that out. Once I twisted the "adapter" into place by hand, the new filter installed just fine. Will report back.----UPDATE 7/8/2016Upgrading from a 3 start to a 4 star review.Still working without any issues after more than five years of use.I did have to deal with some water leaking out of the cold water shut-off valve when i replaced the filter, but that was because the value itself was bad. But, just a cautionary heads up.I did switch to a bigger filter, Culligan RC-EZ-4 EZ-Change Level-4 Replacement Cartridge. We were having some issues with quality of water, so i decided to try this one out. The water is a big foffy at times, but seems to be doing its job. Will report back.

I looked at a ton of water filters on Amazon and found it difficult to find a clear winner. There’s a huge swing in price and complexity on these things and the reviews are all over the place on all but the most expensive. I decided on this one because of price and simplicity. My short review is that it works great, my water tastes good, and it meets my needs. The longer answer...As usual when you have a product that requires you to install it yourself, you have a bunch of people giving it 1 star and claiming defects. The majority of the complaints about this product are about leaking and most people seem to blame that on low quality hardware that comes with it. All the hardware is made of plastic and while I wouldn’t call it “heavy duty”, it is plenty adequate for handling a thin line of low pressure water. Also, lets not forget the low price. If you feel you need all metal parts and a high end faucet, there are plenty of more expensive options out there. The unit also only comes with a connector for 1/2" lines, which they should have stated in the description. If you happen to have another size you will have to make a trip to the hardware store.I’d say the majority of the problems people have come from:- Over tightening.- Not properly cutting the hose that comes with the unit.- Bad Gaskets in your existing hose.Over tightening the connectors can put too much pressure on the seals and cause them to leak. You only need to get them good and finger tight then turn a little more with a wrench. The unit comes with a hose which you have to cut. You need to cut this with a utility knife or other sharp blade. Scissors or similar cutters that involve squeezing can mash the hose while cutting it. This hose has to stay round and the end needs to be cut flat to make a good seal.Odds are your existing cold water hose has been on there for several years.. The rubber gasket in the connector could be falling apart, hardened, or just become moulded to the shape of the pipe its been connected to for so long and won’t make a good connection to anything else. That’s what happened with mine. I had a major leak after first putting this thing together. Do yourself a favor and just go ahead and replace the hose when you install this. They're 5-10 bucks and you could probably use a new one anyway. After doing this, mine sealed great.Bottom line: Take your time, read the instructions, do it right and you'll have a good leak free filter.***Update: It's been a year since I installed this and not a single problem. Looks and works just like the day I bought it.

Fairly easy to install. I didn't have any leaks. Water comes out cloudy at first but then clears up as it settles (I guess from going through the filter media). Tastes a little different than before, but maybe that's because I'm used to the chlorine taste that it previously had and now it has no taste?. Overall, very satisfied.I did call tech support for a question on how far the tubing went into the culligan faucet (5/8 inch or all the way which is about 2 inches) because the manual wasn't clear here (just said to push 'firmly' into the faucet). The tech did not call back until the following day, but said it only goes in a short distance so the ferrule compression ring compresses on the tubing where the T insert is fitted into the end of the tubing. Makes sense to me...the insert gives it strength so the compression washer doesn't crush the tubing. I originally had the tubing pushed all the way into the faucet and still did not have a leak.Another thing I did was to cut a piece of 5/8 inch plywood to use as a template that I could hold firmly against the wall to drill the hole in a granite countertop for the faucet and to keep the bit from walking. I drilled a 5/8 inch hole (same size as the bit I was using to drill through the granite countertop) in the plywood where I wanted the hole and used it to guide the diamond coated bit to cut through the countertop. This worked perfectly. I kept dipping the diamond coated bit in water every 30 seconds to clean it and keep it cool. It only took about 5 minutes or so and I was through. Perfect clean cut.
